Smith was lifeguarding at Bicentennial Pool, when a young boy became unconscious while swimming with his family who were visiting from out of town. Smith noticed that the young boy did not surface and reacted immediately, diving into the pool to recover and resuscitate him.  Grandparents Barbara and Don Harmon watched as their grandson Brentley, age 12 was pulled from the water, according to the grandmother,  “he sat him up on the gutter and slapped him on his back yelling, “breathe, breathe, finally, he took a breath and regained consciousness,  Terry saved his life.”

The Board of Commissioners along with the Harmon family commends Terry Smith for his altruistic service to the county.
